 7 art

Visual Art will focus on major Art History movements and in turn the media (Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, and Printmaking/Mixed Media) associated with each movement. The students will incorporate into their works the building blocks of art by utilizing the Elements and Principles of Art. The students will get a grasp of the range of techniques that artists use in the world today.

Essential Questions:

  • Why do people create art?

  • Why do artists choose a particular method when creating works of art?

  • How do artists show people, their moods and their expressions?

Art Materials Policy:

Students need to recognize that using art materials is a privilege. They must respect that privilege. We have amazing art materials at our school, but we have a limited supply. If students abuse the privilege, aren’t respectful towards materials, are wasteful, etc., the privilege to have access to these amazing materials will be taken away from them.

Visual Art Expectations

As this is a general Visual Art course, I do not expect everyone to be master artist. I do expect every student to do the work and to make an effort. Works will not be scored on the technical expertise, unless specified beforehand. However, work that is sloppy or doesn’t show a hardworking effort, will not be accepted.

Students will be allowed to redo projects to improve their grade. These may be subject to the school’s Late Assignment Policy, if applicable.
Ex 1. Student completes his drawing but has some elements missing, he receives an 80%. The next day he turns in the drawing again with all the correct elements, his grade is changed to a 95%. Ex 2. Student doesn’t turn in his assignment, the next day he turns it in. In line with the Late Assignment Policy, the highest possible grade he can receive is a 90%.
