Hello, I'm Mr. Weaver, the Upper School Art teacher at QISS.

Hi students and parents! Welcome! My name is Andrew Weaver and we have a great fun filled year ahead of us. First off, this is Art 101. In here we will delve into using different media in art such as watercolor, acrylic, clay, printmaking, and more! We'll study the basic skills of the elements of art such as color, line, rhythm. We will also study famous artists and their techniques and try to incorporate them into our classroom. 

A little about myself, I recently graduated from Transylvania University. There I received my Bachelors in Studio Art with an emphasis in Photography and a minor in Asian Art History. Afterwards, I attended Union University to get my teaching art license.

As I said photography is my passion, though I love ceramics and painting as well. People ask what do you shoot, of what do you like to take photos. A friend recently put it this way after looking at some of my photographs, "You like landscapes and people-scapes." I liked it so much I adopted it. The main focus of my senior exhibition was photos that dealt with the human body and what society would deem as imperfections of it and showing that there is still beauty in these so-called imperfections. Another exhibition of mine was of highly texturized landscape photographs that I took while in the Mediterranean. 

Speaking of the Mediterranean brings me to my other passion. I love to travel. Seeing the world is a dream of mine. While at Transylvania I had the opportunity to travel to the People's Republic of China. We traveled to the cities of Shanghai, Suzhou, Yi'xing, Xi'an, and Beijing. We saw many ancient to contemporary works of art. 
I also have the opportunity to study for a semester in Florence, Italy. Studying in a foreign country is like nothing I have ever experienced. The wonder and excitement of being there for longer than a week or two is just amazing. You build relationships with grocers, bartenders, cafe waiters and other local people. Not to mention the art in Florence was good too. LOL. 

Art and Travel, those are my passions. I want to share these passions with you and inspire you as I have been inspired.
