 advanced studio art

Advanced Studio Art will focus developing each student as an artist. The course will be designed to fit the needs of the student. This could mean creating a portfolio, learning new techniques previously never tried, or improving their art skills. The course will be student led and driven. The students will be in charge of pushing themselves forward, with the teacher to be more of a guide to help them in their own investigations.

Essential Questions:

  • How do artists explore a variety of media in order to express certain ideas, messages or feelings?

  • How do artists create successful compositions using the elements and principles of design?

Art Materials Policy:

Students need to recognize that using art materials is a privilege. They must respect that privilege. We have amazing art materials at our school, but we have a limited supply. If students abuse the privilege, aren’t respectful towards materials, are wasteful, etc., the privilege to have access to these amazing materials will be taken away from them.

AP Art Expectations

As this is a college-level Visual Art course, I expect everyone to be self-sufficient. My role as the teacher is to guide the students throughout the course. They need to self-motivated and keep up with deadlines. The students will be making self-led investigations into differing areas that are of interest to them. They will make an in depth study of a particular theme/idea. My job is to assist the students and offer advice on how to proceed, but ultimately it is up to the student to be the driving force for this class.
